Founded in 1968, Salisbury Garden Club is planning a series of events over the next year to celebrate its 50th anniversary. On April 3, 2018 SGC President, Lorna Boucher, presented a book, Flora of Virginia, to Midlothian Library Assistant Branch Manager Leslie Johnson, with several members of SGC and library staff attending.
SGC has evolved significantly over the last 50 years, reaching out to the community with programs of service, education, and beautification to local schools, assisted living and memory care, to the new community hospice house, and to various civic service areas whose gardens need attention from time to time. Now with 100 + members, the club has the resources, talents, skill, and knowledge to carry out these and other projects where help is often needed.
Leslie Johnson thanked the club for its generous donation and has placed the book on a special display designed by club members, where it will remain for two weeks. After that the book will join Midlothian Library circulation, where it is hoped it will shed light on some of the mysteries of gardening and provide inspiration and information to those who enjoy getting down to the earth.
